well im bias but pugs. my pug maggie loves to sit in your lap all day and is quiet and loves attention. she also does great with all the neighbors dogs. but you should always supervise kids with pets especially puppies so they dont jump on them and stuff. research it on google. i found out alot when i wanted to get a new dog.labs are good too .
I’ve had a couple of dachshunds and boston terriers and I would recommend both. If you have really young children, then you would have to teach them to pick up a dachshund properly because they are sometimes sensitive around their front legs near the rib cage.
labs are very gentle, patient and loving. and have a very constant disposition, are not excitable, and are very healthy. however they are a little on the large side, but very easy to handle. theyre also clever and easily trained.
The number one choice for families with any age children is the Bichon Frise or simply Bichon. They have this incredible happy-go-lucky attitude and they are always ready to play. They do not shed, they are hyperallergenic which means even people who have allergies to dogs aren’t allergic to them. They are very tolerant of children’s tugging hands and will gladly lay quietly with you. They are 10-20 pounds so they are cheap to feed. Their hair has to be cut back quite short only twice a year.
This depends on the living arrangements, like the type of hard and the climate, as well as how much time will be spent with the pet. Goldren retrievers are known for having good temperments and patience with children and elders. Old english sheepdogs are good dogs too, though some will try to herd family members! Border collies tend to be very serious and sometimes stressed by children. Great danes and st. benards are awfully mellow and pretty good around children, however they are big and can knock them down if they arent trained properly. A local vet or humane society could probably help advice your family on your new pet. Remember…mixed breed dogs are often found to be healthier and live longer because they are not subjected to inbreeding. Try for more info. Good luck with your search!!
Golden Retrievers. Despite their size, they are kind, intelligent, compassionate towards others, and have a second sense of human emotions–of children and the elderly. That’s why Goldies are used most often as guide dogs. All dogs are very aware of human behavioral patterns. They are sensitive to sounds and to different conditions more so if they are trained.
Goldies have a resigned and peaceful look about them, and 99.99% of the time they are very happy dogs if treated well.
I owned many dogs over the years as a owner and pet rescue.I found however the Golden labs and retrievers are very loyal and more subdued then most. The smaller dogs however sweet are more hyper and larger dogs can be harder to handle but seem more subdued then others. You cant go wrong with just a mutt though.A mixed breed at your localk shelter are wonderful pets but labs and retrivers seem personally to me to be the most layed back dog(after puppy days are over)
I prefer a spanial-terrier mixed. I’ve owned 3 in my life and have found them to be a very good nature dog. I have one now that will soon be 15yrs old and she’s still a good ole gal.
Over the years I have owner tons of different breeds of dogs, and although I loved the dog I never fell inlove with a breed until I met and then got my first Labrador Retriever. They are the greatest and now I would never be without one. They are the most loving, affectionate, loyal, devoted, intelligent, and versatile dog. I have always been amazed how well they pick up on human emotion and then adjust accordingly. It is no wonder why they are the number one used dog for service work. They are easy to train and love everyone and everything. My Lab plays everything possible with my nephews, he swimms with them, goes sledding and hiking and keeps them busy all day long. I was extremely impressed how quite and gentle my Lab gets around my 92 year old grandpa. Usually my Lab is playful (he is only a 1 1/2 years) but around my grandpa he is very genle attentive. He has always been like that. When I got him my brother was dying and every morning that 7 week old puppy who crawl up on the wheelchair next to my brother’s bed and sit there to give my brother attention. They just have an extra sense and adjust to suite your needs and feelings. I could never say enough good things about them.
From experience the most loyal and loving dogs are Golden Retrievers. =)
A nice and calm mature dog from the shelters, preferably under 50 LB, that passed a temperament test.

Those lassie mutts are great, they are highly intelligent aswell as loyal. Labs and retreivers are also probably your best bets.

labradores or golden retrivers
Miniature Schnauzers. They are small, calm, don’t shed, and make great, devoted companions.

Miniature poodles and schnauzers are both good breeds of dogs with wonderful temperments and will be ideal for both age groups.
