Senior Years: Understanding Your Dog’s Aging Process
Anyone with an ageing dog will welcome a book in an area devoid of research. Dogs, like people, are living longer, the oldest is documented to have lived to 29. Much is written about how to comfort the ageing dog once body systems fail, yet there is nothing written about how things get that way, or what people can do to stop or slow the process. This book presents information about the ageing phenomena, the physiological principles involved in the conditions of ageing, and the kinds of diagnoses

Is it EVO Innova good for senior dogs?

Question by Cookie: Is it EVO Innova good for senior dogs?
I’ve been feeding my chihuahua the EVO canned and dry food for the past few months now and I think its been great. Her personality totally changed, from being a kind of lethergic lazy no energy dog, to almost a puppy like attitude, running around, always playing, so happy dog. She is 8 years old and I think the change of her pet food has really helped her be more energized and youthful.
Anyway i recently went to the vet and someone who worked there told me that I need to feed her a dog food for senior dogs bc the dog food for adult dogs arent good for them. I went on the EVO website and didnt see they have any senior dog food. Do you guys think its fine? I mean, it seems to make her happy and healthy, but I dont want her kidneys or liver working overtime to process her food.
Thanks!
P.S. i told the lady at the vet office that I am feeding her EVO and she has not heard of it, which i thought was weird bc i thought EVO was the best for dogs and cats.

Because Evo is a speciality food not available at PetStores, grocery stores, or most vet offices, it isn’t unheard of that she didn’t know what it was. I live in Oklahoma and have to order Innova (if I used it – I use Canidae which I also order).
The main concern with feeding a senior dog regular adult food would be the very high protein content. Although there is debate over this, most people believe such a high protein content should be fed to only adult dogs – not seniors or puppies. Such a high protein content causes puppies to grow too quickly and can aggrevate hip and elbow dysplasia. It can also lead to kidney and liver problems in senior dogs.
Innova does make food for senior dogs – Innova Senior and Innova Senior Plus.

Proven studies that say corn is bad for dogs?

Question by Ruby: Proven studies that say corn is bad for dogs?
My parents have a senior golden retriever that eats Iams Healthy Naturals. Every week when my mother calls, she complains that the dog smells or is itchy, despite the fact that the dog does not have fleas. The dog was briefly on Wellness but went back to eating Iams because Wellness was too expensive. I’ve been trying to convince her to switch the dog back over to something better than the garbage he gets now- I’ve tried suggesting Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, etc. But her response is always that the vet says Iams is better, and that she trusts what the vet has to say over my opinions- I suppose her reasoning is that the vet has more schooling in canine nutrition than I do!
I feel that she would consider a better food if I showed her some clinical trials that say corn has no business being in dog food- but where can I find these? Please no crazy websites that state that you are poisoning your dog if you don’t feed a raw diet, or weird articles about vaccines being the downfall of pets- thanks!
CC (HappyHolidays), Read my question. I KNOW corn is bad for dogs, I just need studies that say so. Christ on a cracker.

Answer by CC(Happy Holidays)
Iams has too much grain i it, switch the dog to Inova, or Canidae, may be more expensive but a dog needs to eat healthy. If you cant care for a dog then dont have one.
