best friends dog club member asked: One of our condo associations banned pets in the condo for all seniors because there was no one designated to care for a condo owner’s cat when she went into the hopsital, and the pet almost died. Our fire department has had several cases where a single elderly resident was incapacitated (hospitalized) and there were pets left in the home (again, without any caregiver designated).
Further Info: We are looking for temporary shelter in the case of someone who is hospitalized and may be able to come home at some point in the near future. It would be cruel to put the pet up for adoption if the person recovers! In the case of the owner’s death, of course, we agree that the animal deserves to be placed in a loving family’s care, where possible, but being shuttled from one foster home to another is sad in the cases where the animal and owner are both “senior citizens.” Thanks for helping our club come up with a creative way to help seniors or the fire department out in a pinch. What a world it would be if the fostering family could bring the pet to the hospital for visits while the senior was recuperating! Wow.

purplecows500 asked: My elderly neighbor would like to adopt a dog for companionship after the death of her first dog. She is able to care for a dog, but can’t train one. So I’m wondering if there are any organizations out there that train dogs (not service ones) and then allow for adoption by the elderly.

Techietoast asked: Please be reverent and understanding. My elderly male cat has become bowel & urinary incontinent; that is, he cannot control his faculties. He is almost 10 years old. I am wanting clean, proper, and responsible answers to a most difficult decision that my wife and I are having to make.
Please do not be crass, abusive, and/or distasteful. I will not hesitate to report anyone to Yahoo that is.

mrdiscus asked: My grandparents have recently bought a new miniature schnauzer puppy and are having problems handling it. When it gets hyper it gets a little out of control. We know that walking it enough will help control this but we are talking about the elderly here and they just don’t have the energy to walk it for an hour a day. Another thing that the dog is doing is that it has a bitting problem. It doesn’t just nip, it bites when it plays with somebody. Not when ever, but always! But by no means is it an aggressive bite, but I want to make sure that it does not develop into one. If someone could help me with this question and help control this bitting black blur that buzzes around my grandparents feet at 90 mph, that would be a great help.
thanks,
Mr. Discus!
the dog gets some walking but not as much as it should.

Helix asked: Im a just wondering if perhaps I have missed a good animal. I have a very old grandmother who doesnt have the strength to let an animal outside and will not clean up after puppies or cats. I cannot take care of this sort of thing for her either. Shes lonely though, and looking for a companion. Something that can take care of its self for the most part and still provides companionship is ideal. Any ideas?
