How do I humanely put my elderly house pet down?
Techietoast asked:
Please be reverent and understanding. My elderly male cat has become bowel & urinary incontinent; that is, he cannot control his faculties. He is almost 10 years old. I am wanting clean, proper, and responsible answers to a most difficult decision that my wife and I are having to make.

What are some good pets for the elderly?
Helix asked:
Im a just wondering if perhaps I have missed a good animal. I have a very old grandmother who doesnt have the strength to let an animal outside and will not clean up after puppies or cats. I cannot take care of this sort of thing for her either. Shes lonely though, and looking for a companion. Something that can take care of its self for the most part and still provides companionship is ideal. Any ideas?

Did you ever have an elderly pet who was gravelly ill?
Tarlyng asked:
And you had to be the one to make the difficult decision to have them put to sleep?
I have a thirteen year old hybrid wolf dog (she looks more like an American Eskimo dog) who has started to become ill since this weekend. She has been the sweetest dog ever since she was a puppy. She has never known a stranger. Last year when we got our another dog (a Pomeranian) she quickly took to him and treated him like he was her puppy. Four years ago I lost another dog due to the fact that she ran away and was caught in the middle of deer accident. Both she and my thirteen year old dog who were sisters (though not related by blood), and buddies. Where one went the other one had to follow. Before that I had a sweet Rottweiler who die suddenly due to poisoning by a neighbor. This is the first time that I’ve had to make this decision.

Would you spend this kind of money on your elderly pet?
Alex asked:
Recently, my 16 year old cocker spaniel’s health took a turn for the worst. $2,600 later, we still don’t have a complete diagnosis. We did an MRI to scan the brain for tumors, and or stroke. Now we are being told that the dog is anemic and needs an ultra sound of his stomach to see what is causing diarrhea and anemia.

Is it common for old dogs to get anemia? How many of you would spend $300-$600 to get an ultra sound? Any thoughts
