I would first try for the Care Credit card.. It is no-interest card to be used for veterinary care, and it allows up to 18 months to repay.. all of the vets in my state accept this card..
You can apply on-line, and know within minutes if you have been approved.. All it requires is a steady source of income.

Or, you can fill out the forms at your vet’s clinic.

I’m pretty sure that Pets Best will accept older dogs and heard that they do cover at least some amount toward pre-existing conditions (which is unlike the other companies I researched). They have an online quote system that might be helpful. I have heard that insurance premiums go up for older dogs, but it might be worth it to at least see what the premiums would be. Good luck! p.s. I just read that your pup hasn’t had problems for more than a year. I think in that case that it may not be considered pre-existing, but you could always call and ask to make sure. I talk to Mike when I call and he’s very helpful.
